Fan Fiction & Fan Art Contest

January 1st, 2017, is the first day to submit entries to the Southern Oaks Library Fan-Fiction Fan-Art contest. Fan art may be any medium and contain original characters, but must contain copyrighted characters as the main theme. Similar rules apply to fan fiction.  For complete rules, go to www.metrolibrary.org/fan

The last day to submit your work is Sunday, March 19, 2017 by 6:00 p.m.  The announcement party is at Southern Oaks Library, 6900 S Walker Ave. OKC 73139 on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 1:30 to 3:00p.m.

Friends' Booksale

Friends of the Metropolitan Library System present the 38th Annual Friends Booksale. Offering more than 600,000 books covering a wide range of subjects, plus a large selection of videos, DVDs and books on tape. Hardbacks in the general section are only $1 and paperbacks and magazines are $0.50 each. Admission is free and for the first time, credit and debit cards will be accepted for purchases over $20, in addition to checks and cash.

123! Play with Me!

Playing with your baby or toddler is not only important for bonding but is also an educational experience for your child. We are providing a special time for you to come to the library and spend one-on-one time playing with your little one. A different community resource professional will be available each week to answer your parenting questions during playtime. Playtime will be followed by a short storytime just for you and your baby.

This is a recurring event and takes place in every Tuesday for three weeks.

This event is held at multiple libraries throughout the year.

Need help preparing and filing your state and federal income tax returns? Volunteers from AARP will be providing free tax preparation and e-filing assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to bring all relevant documents with you, e.g. all earning and dividend statements, copies of last year's federal and state returns, proof of your bank account numbers for direct deposit, a photo ID, and a social security card or a social security document, such as a SSA-1099 tax form.

This is a recurring event and takes place every Thursday during tax season.

Knitting Club

Second Monday Knitting Club
Interested in knitting or learning to knit? If so, bring your current project, or just bring yarn and knitting needles and we can teach you how to get started. The recommended yarn for beginners is "variegated worsted weight" and size 7 or 8 needles. Needles and yarn will be available for participants without supplies.

This is a recurring event and takes place on the second Monday of the month.
