Friends' Booksale

Friends of the Metropolitan Library System present the 38th Annual Friends Booksale. Offering more than 600,000 books covering a wide range of subjects, plus a large selection of videos, DVDs and books on tape. Hardbacks in the general section are only $1 and paperbacks and magazines are $0.50 each. Admission is free and for the first time, credit and debit cards will be accepted for purchases over $20, in addition to checks and cash.

Origami Airplanes

Create amazing things out of paper!  We will combine the Japanese art of Origami with the art of paper airplane building.  Come to the library to show off your skills or learn some new tricks.  There will be a contest to see whose airplane flies the furthest.  Registration required.

Book Club

Books and Bites for Teens
Join other teens who love to read as we try out different genres and themes of YA books each month!  Make new friends and discover your next favorite book at the Bethany Library.  This new teen book club will take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month and will not require everyone to read the same book.  You can read any book you want that fits the theme of the month!  Join us in March to discuss graphic novels/manga!  Did I mention we will have snacks?

This is a recurring event and takes place on the third Thursday of each month.

What an Inventive Idea!

Do you know who invented television?  Do you know who invented the World Wide Web?  Your library knows!  Come to the information desk and pick up a scavenger hunt that will have you exploring inventors and their inventions.  Use library resources to answer the questions.  Work by yourself, with a partner, or with your family.  After finishing the scavenger hunt, bring it back to the information desk, and we'll have a prize for you!

Want to be a better reader? Simply read! Reading for just 20 minutes a day is guaranteed to improve your reading skills.  Rocket Readers is a reading program for children with games, incentives and one-on-one reading time with volunteers.  Children will read with volunteers for 30 minutes at 5:30pm, 6:00pm or 6:30pm.  We can help your reading score soar!   Word games and all reading materials provided or you can bring your own. 

This is a recurring event and takes place on Mondays.

Sharing in playtimes is an excellent way to help children build social skills, promote learning and discover that the library is a destination for fun! We will conclude our playtime with a brief educational storytime with music, rhymes, movement, flannel board activities and a brief story. Choose the 9:30 or 10:30 session. A professional librarian will lead storytime and share tips on reading readiness.
